The W124 E500 was a monster sedan equipped with the M119 5-liter V8 DOHC engine developed for the R129 500SL in the medium class. Its outstanding performance, contrary to its modest appearance, earned it the nickname "a wolf in sheep's clothing." Porsche was responsible for drivetrain and almost all of vehicle assembly work. The suspension parts were also transplanted from the 500SL, with large brake rotors measuring 300mm in the front and 275mm in the rear, and Brembo calipers. As a result, the tire size was increased to 225/55R16, and the body was given overfenders. In Japan, it gained popularity as a "Benz made by Porsche."

In the later model, the naturally aspirated DOHC 32-valve V8 M119 engine produces a maximum output of 325 PS/5,700 rpm and a maximum torque of 49 kgm/3,900 rpm from a displacement of 4,973 cc, accelerating the compact body ferociously! Its tradition and performance are truly exceptional. Moreover, the production volume of the 500E/E500 was 10,479 units. Of these, 1,184 units, or about 10%, were officially imported to Japan. In addition to this, more than 2,000 units were parallel imported. The final model, the Limited, was released in 1995. It has been 30 years since production ended. It is still very popular today.
